Burglars enter elderly woman’s home in broad daylight and steal her jewellery


An elderly woman was in her home when thieves struck in broad daylight stealing cash and jewellery.

Cleveland Police are appealing for information following the report of the burglary in Thornaby’s Axton Close between 2pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday, April 13.

They said the elderly woman was in the property at the time of the burglary, but, fortunately, she wasn’t injured.

Police said among the suspected stolen items was a substantial amount of cash and a quantity of jewellery, including a gold gate bracelet, a gold and sapphire studded bangle with a sapphire missing, a gold ingot on a gold belcher chain, a rose gold albert chain and a gold dome-shaped broach with a dent in the dome.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “Officers are appealing for anyone with CCTV footage, anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the items or anyone who may have been offered the suspected stolen items for sale to contact DC James Limon on the non-emergency number 101, quoting event number 061309.
